Besides the core subjects taught within the regular classroom, MLA believes that ancillary classes (art, music, physical education, and foreign language) are equally important to produce well-rounded children. MLA prides itself on the uniqueness of its ancillary classes.

MLA is also unique in that its ancillary classes are not separate from the regular classroom. Ancillary teachers plan with the individual classroom teachers to fit their curriculum into the current theme. This provides incentive, real-world learning, continuity, and cross-learning experiences.

MLA has developed the only five-day a week physical education program in Monongalia County. Students are given physical education and/or health instruction daily, helping to produce children who are self-aware, physically fit, and health conscious.  Three times throughout the year, children are tested with FitnessGram for muscular strentgh and endurance and the results are incorporated into their ISPs.    Since MLA first broke ground in 2000, MLA has completed three phases of development:  the initial school building, a play space that includes multi-age play equipment, and outdoor lunch park, basketball courts, and a gymnasium/multipuyrpose room.  The next step in MLA's development will be to fence our developed green space as a soccer/game field.
