Cupcake Wars

Session 2: July 29 - Aug 1, 9:30am - 11:30am

This workshop will be a fun and exciting way for your child to learn to make cupcakes from scratch.  We will be exploring different cupcake decorating techniques using icings, fondant and anything that is safe to eat (and also peanut-free)!  This learning experience will be turned into a friendly competition to see who can make the best cupcake according to the judges!

 

LEGOS

Following Ms. Seese's guidance, young Masterbuilders will unleash their Inner "Emmet".  Using their imaginations, the children will build LEGO creations from a necklace, all the way up to a LEGO City.

  

Calling All Wannabe Unicyclers!

Ever thought of running off to join the circus? Participating in a Parade? Or do you just wanna be cool like The Hulk's Mark Ruffalo and The X-Men's James McAvoy? Then come and try your legs at learning to unicycle right here at MLA! This fun and unique riding experience is good for all fitness levels (even the unfit). So strap on those helmets and come learn to ride with Ms. Tracey! With 8 hours of instruction and practice, she will have you feeling more confident and heading in the right direction. MLA has 10 unicycles so bring your own helmet, a mountain of determination and a saddlebag full of persistence. Juggling is optional!

 

Warmachine

Have you ever wanted to fire a catapult or warmachine and knock down a castle?  Who hasn't?  A better question might be why haven't you done it?  The reason might be that you didn't have Mr. Mike to teach you.  During this workshop kids will help in designing, building and firing an operation model siege engine.
 

Paint Outside the Box

Campers will get the chance to express their inner Dali on multiple surfaces.  All paints and surfaces to be painted will be supplied, but the artists are encouraged to bring clothes and shoes they are willing to get paint on. 

 

Unicorns and Rainbows and Glitter ...Oh My!

Welcome to a fantasy world of Unicorns and rainbows!  We will be working on several types of rainbow art (including edible rainbows).  We will also be designing unicorn headpieces.  The workshop will be ending with a unicorn tea party!

 

The GREAT BRITISH Tea Off with Ms. Tracey

Come and learn the finer art of making delicious treats that make a truly tasty tea. The Queen of Hearts she loved her jam tarts, and so will you. Don't forget those "one-of-a-kind" scones topped off with clotted cream - the highlight of any Devonshire or Cornish tea. Queen Victoria's "Vicki" sandwich cake with strawberry jam! BUT WAIT! Will you prefer Fairy or Butterfly cakes? Will your finger sarnies be offensively thick? All these goodies coming together on the last day when we will set our table, fold the napkins, and wear our finest bowler or summer hats. Kids will write menu cards and make their own special recipe books so they may share with family and friends the joys of a great traditional British Tea!

 

Messy Masterpieces

Tired of being yelled out for making a mess? Well Ms. Seese is going to give you a chance to make a mess...on purpose. Exploring all of the fun "messy" mediums that your parents won't let you do at home! Tye-dye, Splatter paint t-shirts, Paint Splotch Twister & more! Be prepared to get messy! (change of clothes is encouraged)

 

Hannah's Woodland Meditations

Ms. Spencer will guide young Yogis on their road to centering their Chi while being in the outdoors. The campers will be taught both Yoga poses and meditation techniques rain or shine. What better way to greet the morning. Loose fitting or stretchy clothes and comfortable walking shoes recommended.

 

Mud Pie Mania

Kids letting their imaginations run wild with safe outdoor messiness. Ms. Spencer will supervise as children pan for "gold" or make a mud fortress to fend off the evil Murk Lord of Doom hordes, or whatever else they can dream up. Change of clothes is required because the filth is half the fun!

 

Camp Move It

Get ready to move! Join us as we explore different ways to get fit and have fun. We will sample different styles of conditioning and take advantage of our beautiful trails on campus. This workshop will help students learn the benefits of staying active and living a healthy lifestyle.

 

Comic Camp

This workshop will explore the genre of graphic novels.  Students will read a variety of graphic novels and learn about story structure, page composition, pacing, character design and more.  Students will then create their own graphic novels that they will self-publish during the workshop.

 

Mr. Mike's Dinner Bell

July 15 - 18, 12:30pm - 2:30pm

This workshop will teach your child how to prepare home-cooked meals from scratch. The menu will consist of several of Mr. Mike's favorite healthy and tasty meals. Mr. Mike will impart cooking skills that include grilling to soup making. Campers will be able to sample all the delicious food they cook and go home with a belly full of a culinary treat. As always, MLA is peanut free!

 

Stop Action Theatre

Back by popular demand! Mr. Mike will guide campers in the art of Stop Motion movie making. Campers will learn about the Stop Action movie making process from script writing through editing. Who knows, maybe your camper will be the next Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas), Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox) or Nick Park (Wallace and Gromit).

Back by popular demand, Ms. Tracey and Ms. Georgette's hands-on STEM workshop!  Come and explore the world of coding and robots with this workshop using Lego Wedo 2.0 kits.  Kids will have a blast programming their robots to complete missions while improving their coding skills.
